PORTSMOUTH 100 PORTRAITS
Are you an aspiring artist, drawing and painting at home or never even drawn or painted a picture before but fancied having a go? I am reaching out to you to join me in a free portrait painting workshop using watercolour. The resulting works will be exhibited in an arts trail based in the libraries culminating in a final exhibition at the International Ferry Port along side my own Portrait of a Pompey centenarian.
The workshops will take place in the Portsmouth libraries using an accessible and supportive approach to enable participants to complete a portrait regardless of prior experience.

WHAT IS PORTSMOUTH 100/100 PORTRAITS
Portsmouth 100 Portraits is a participatory visual arts project engaging 100 residents in creating 100 painted portraits through a series of intensive, artist-led free workshops delivered across Portsmouth.
Funded by Arts Council England and in partnership with Portsmouth City Council, Portsmouth Creates and The International Ferry Port the project focuses on individuals who do not currently engage with arts and culture, particularly those who lack confidence or feel excluded from creative activity. Workshops will take place in familiar community settings, using an accessible and supportive approach to enable participants to complete a portrait regardless of prior experience.
The resulting works will form a city-wide exhibition trail in everyday public spaces, such as Portsmouth libraries increasing access to art beyond traditional venues. The project culminates in a final portrait of a Portsmouth centenarian, painted by Karl Rudziak to be exhibited as a centrepiece to the final exhibition of the collected works at the international ferry port.
Rough Sleeper Portraits
I am currently engaged in a project challenging public attitudes to rough sleeping and homelessness with the Society of St James. Also researching how portraiture can be used as a tool in breaking cyclical narratives of negative entrenched, internalised ideas of self-worth and boost self-esteem particularly in difficult areas of mental ill-health, drug and alcohol dependency.
Social And Palliative Care
This is an ongoing project based on carers and their stories of looking after loved ones. The care system is coming under increasing strain as we live longer and end of life care becomes more and more complex in terms of medical care and quality of life.
We Don't Need Culture
We Don't Need Culture is a project based in and around the Portsmouth area in association with Portsmouth City Council and Arts Council England with the aim to expose working arts practice to local people using portraiture as a tool for a re-examination of the word ‘culture'. It considers the difference between the ideals and reality of social structures that culture represents. Targeted at local people who connect the word culture with elitist connotations, the project delivers new perspectives through portrait painting exhibited in freely accessable areas such as community centres.
