VE Day in 80 Objects Portraits Project

Back in January I hooked up with Portsmouth City Museum and Art Gallery for VE Day in 80 Objects exhibition. The brief was simple - get people to bring in photographs of family members, or inspiration people connected with the World War 2 and VE Day as a reference for a watercolour workshop. If they didn’t have any we would supply some. The results would be displayed at the exhibition either on the wall or in a book. The results were wonderful. Photographs are a catalyst for conversations about family history and legacy. Getting new works of art from the stories behind the photographs were great way of remembering our wartime past and how families survived such times. Also how art at it’s most grass roots can be relevant and pack an authentic punch in contemporary culture.
